Bowls has been played at the District Club since our earliest days on Clifton Drive South, and the green remains the heart of the club through the summer months. Four teams play across local leagues - including a Tuesday afternoon side in the Welcome League - and new bowlers, experienced or otherwise, are always made welcome.

A hand written history
Open the lid of the club's old case of jacks and you will find "St. Annes District Club Ltd" written by hand inside, with each bowl stamped D.C. Nobody is quite sure who wrote it, or when.
The green was the school's playing field until 1931, when the gymnasium and outbuildings were cleared and the ground laid to grass. The story is told in The founder: John Allen.
The bowling green was originally the playing field of Kilgrimol School - which, along with its outhouses, boasted a sand dune and gymnasium facilities.
